Huawei phone photos: what Frame Witness can and cannot do
Frame Witness does not read a Huawei phone's internal memory and is not validated on Huawei phones. Where to look first, and what it can do with a memory card.
What Frame Witness does not do
It does not connect to phones, does not read a phone's internal memory and has not been validated on any Huawei model. Phone acquisition is outside its scope; it never roots, unlocks or modifies a device.
Why internal memory is hard
Android phones encrypt their internal storage file by file (file-based encryption). The information needed to decrypt a file is removed with the file, so even a raw copy of the memory, when one can be made at all, does not give deleted photos back.
Where to look first
Look in the Recently deleted album of the phone's Gallery app, which keeps deleted photos for a limited time, and in any cloud backup the phone was set to use.
A memory card from the phone
If the phone stored photos on a removable memory card, take the card out and read it with a card reader on Windows: it is then an SD card like any other, and the SD card guide applies. No card from a Huawei phone has been tested yet.
